You are eligible for texas medicare supplement at age 65 if you have paid into the Social Security System for 10 or more total years. You are eligible for premium-free Medicare Part A, or hospital insurance, is premium-free, and everyone pays a monthly premium for medical insurance, or Medicare Part B. You will automatically be enrolled in Medicare if you receive Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Federal Retiree benefits. The General Enrollment period starts January 1 and ends March 31 each year. Your Medicare eligibility will not the following July 1. Be careful with Medicare Part B, as well; you premium will tack on a 10 percent penalty for each year of delayed enrollment.

If you have low income or overwhelming medical costs, it is possible to receive assistance from the Medicaid program. There are also Medicare Savings Programs for those with a low-income that may help pay for Medicare costs, but there are limits for both programs.
